As much as having a little brother can be annoying at times, Leko puts all differences aside when Cooper is hurting and doesn’t feel well.
Cooper had a bit of a rough experience when he went through his neuter surgery. He had a completely opposite experience as Leko. When Leko was done, he slept very little afterwards and we had our hands full trying to keep him calm and from playing too hard. Cooper was quite sleepy, and once the medication wore off later that evening, he was in excruciating pain. He wouldn’t walk, or let us touch him to pick him up. He couldn’t get comfortable to lay down and sleep. He would pace in his crate and whimper. The screams of pain he made in our arms were heart wrenching.
Leko snapped into instant big brother mode. He laid next to Cooper and would kiss and nuzzle his face, offering any kind of support he could. It was really sweet to see this, especially after what an adjustment Leko has had getting used to sharing the house with another dog. Sometimes they’ve gotten along along and played, and other days Cooper would just get on his nerves and he wanted nothing to do with him. It was really nice to see this side of Leko.
We called the vet the next morning and got him some pain meds. Cooper was just one of those puppies that couldn’t handle the pain from the procedure. After one dose and an hour later, he was like a totally different puppy! His energy came back. He would come over to see us and wag his tail, and before we knew it, he and Leko were back to their usual shenanigans and chasing and tormenting each other!
