Petrifying Pet Walk 2012
Over the weekend, Leko and his german shepherd cousin, Gems, participated in the Paws Over Pittsburgh Petrifying Pet Walk at North Park. Dogs from all over the Pittsburgh area came dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes to support the Animal Rescue League. The event held a 1/2 mile dog walk, followed by the Freaky 5K and Terrifying 10K for runners.
We got very lucky with the weather, as we were told last year it snowed for the event, and this year they were calling 80% chance of rain and dropping temperatures with the approach of Hurricane Sandy. It didn’t start lightly raining until the events were about over!
Leko went dressed as a blowfish, while Gems sported a hot dog costume. These two were funny during the walk. When we first started out, they walked slow. Gems even took a little detour to the grass to take care of business, while Leko decided to quit completely and stood like a stone statue in the center of the road. Once we reached the last leg of the course and the finish line was just in sight, them two took the lead and pretty much pulled us the rest of the way.
Awards were given for Cutest Costume, Cutest Dog, and Best Dog/Owner Look-a-Like. Leko didn’t place this year, but Miss Gems won a second place trophy for Cutest Dog Costume, beating a pug and daschund who wore the same hot dog costume as her!
We had an absolute blast, and are already planning a group themed costume for next year! Below are some photos from the event!
