The Placemat Rebellion
There is a new battle brewing in the Berger house: The Humans vs. The Sloppy Eating Poodle.
I recently switched Leko from Royal Canin dog food to the Blue Buffalo formula for toy breeds. The kibble is less than half the size of his previous food, which is nice because he has a tendency to never chew and often chokes. There is only one little drawback to the food switch… the kibble is SO small that it’s getting tracked down into my living room carpet.
Vacuuming is now a daily chore thanks to my sloppy eater. Leko can’t just eat straight from his bowl, instead he prefers to pull mouthfuls out and eat them off of the carpet. I’m finding kibble bits all over the living room carpet and they’re being tracked all throughout the house. Nothing is more annoying than walking around barefoot and a piece of kibble gets stuck between your toes! You are probably wondering why he isn’t eating in the kitchen. Well, that’s because Leko is so spoiled and does not like eating alone. I’ve tried moving his food back into the kitchen, but found it useless as he brings mouthfuls of food back onto the carpet and chows down.
The only solution I could come up with was to have him eat off of a placemat. I purchased a cute plastic paw print placemat at Petco, and thought the kibble issue would be resolved.
Boy was I wrong!
Leko was not happy. He pawed at the placemat, even growled and nipped at the corners after I got his bowls set up. He shot me a mischievous look, then proceeded to take mouthfuls of food out of the bowl and put them on the carpet. Unbelievable! All I could think was what a waste of $5!
So far, us humans have not given in and are still hoping the placemat serves its purpose, but the poodle…. he isn’t backing down either! The battle continues…
